What Would You Like to Know?

You have questions, I have answers!

What are you doing to keep clients safe during COVID?

We are certainly living in strange times! When I come to your home, I come equipped with a face shield and hand sanitizer. I require my clients to wash their hand thoroughly or use hand sanitizer before touching any of my materials. I will do the same! At the end of the session, I clean and disinfect all materials used during the session before I use them with any other client. Alternatively, I do offer teletherapy via Zoom if that is what you are most comfortable with.

Will my insurance cover my child's speech and language therapy?

You will need to check into your insurance plan to see if coverage is offered for private speech and language services; in many cases, the answer will be yes. Other sources of funding, such as FSCD, may cover these costs as well. Unfortunately, Alberta Health Care does not cover private speech and language services; however, the CRA considers these fees to be tax deductible.

How do I get started?

Send me an email at mikayla.slp@gmail.com, or contact me through this website, stating your interest in my services. I will send you some initial interview questions about your child, and a consent form. After you finish with those, we can book the first session!

Where do you conduct sessions?

I am based in Fort Saskatchewan. If you are located in the city or surrounding areas (e.g., Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Edmonton), I come to you! It's great for children to learn in an environment that they are comfortable in, and I love giving parents the option to watch and learn from what we are doing in therapy! If you are farther away, I also provide the option of online therapy sessions.

My child has seen a Speech Pathologist or other professional before...

Great! I will ask that you provide me with any previous reports from relevant professionals, along with contact information for previous SLPs if possible. It's important that I get as much information as possible about your child's speech and language past so that I can make informed decisions about treatment.

Will you perform standardized assessments for my child?

Every child I work with is unique; therefore, I prefer informal, dynamic assessment. Along with information from the parents/guardians who know their child best, this method allows me to jump as quickly as possible into treatment that is tailored to a child's individual needs. If you do require standardized testing, I would be happy to refer you to someone else who can meet your needs.

Are there any additional fees I need to be aware of?

Additional fees will be charged if you need a report written for your child. Monthly invoices must be paid within a week; otherwise, a $10 penalty will be added for each day the payment is late.
